SAMUEL WINCHESTER

Nicknames: Sam, Sammy
Gender: male
Age/DOB: 30, May 2, 1983

In Depth...
"It's not about fault. It's about will."
Likes: modern technology, salad, pizza, family, hunting
Dislikes: demons, clowns, airhead girls, arguing with his brother
Dreams:Put a finish to the supernatural crap and finally get to living his life and starting a family of his own.
Strengths/Special Abilities: intellect, various forms of combat, knowledge of lore and latin incantations
Weaknesses: family, demon blood, damsels in distress
Personality: Many would say that Sam Winchester is the complete opposite of his brother Dean. What Dean carries to the duo with his street smarts, Sam brings in book smarts. He's an intelligent guy and has always taken his education very seriously, and even though he no longer attends Stanford in the hopes of moving on to obtain his law degree, he still spends a decent amount of time on his laptop researching and learning new things. When it comes to the ladies, he more often than not prefers to take a back seat and let Dean work the room. Besides, with his boyish good looks and charming smile, they usually come to him, though Sam is fine going without female attention for a while because he feels there are more important things to focus on. That isn't to say that he doesn't now and then find himself smitten by an attractive girl, but it certainly isn't what he spends most of his time worrying about.
When it comes to hunting, Sam usually lets his brother remain in the driver's seat, calling the shots, mostly because that's what he's used to and that's just how their dynamic works. But if Sam has an opinion or information about something he won't hesitate to speak his mind. And if he feels strongly enough about something he doesn't mind butting heads with Dean to get his message across. He is most of the time a sort of go with the flow sort of person, unless it has to serve a personal purpose or something. So if need be he can be an assertive powerhouse.
He tries to have a outer conscientiousness of others, especially his older brother. He can be very empathic when he wants to be, and many times its to those he feels deserves it. Sam's biggest strength when it comes to solving a case is his incredible ability to gain the trust of people and witnesses involved and to draw information from them. For some reason, not many can withstand his trademark puppy dog eyes. He just seems to have the sort of face that people feel they can trust.
Sam tends to listen to his heart more than he listens to his head. This isn't to say that he's all about acting before thinking, but he is a downright good guy and his conscience and emotions do tend to influence what he does.
Family and Contacts...
"I realize that the only way we've made it through all this is by hanging together."
Siblings: Dean and Adam
Important others: Castiel
Character History...
"I was gonna say you look like you'd seen a ghost, but you'd probably be stoked."
One could easily say that Sam Winchester was born to be a hunter. The first six months of his life were about as normal and apple pie as you could get, but of course Sam was so young that he couldn't tell you what that was like at all. In all honesty, Sam's life really began on the night of his six month birthday... and that was also the night when his mother's life ended.
It was a nursery fire that killed Mary Winchester... that's all the neighbors knew and for a while that was all Sam knew. He didn't remember her at all but Dean sure had fond stories to tell him, and though he often found himself wishing he had been able to know his mother, it would have been a lie to say that he actually missed her. It more concerned Sam that the loss of their mother was much harder on his older brother, but good ol' Dean, he always stayed strong, or at least, he gave the illusion of it.
Growing up, it was just the three of them... Sam, Dean and their father, and to say that they led an odd life would be a huge understatement. Unknown to Sam for the first few years, their never-ending road trip with their father wasn't just about seeing the country. John Winchester was on a mission to find out what had killed his wife... because he knew that fire back in 1983 was no case of faulty wiring. For quite a while, Sam had no idea that their lives were particularly different. How was he to know that every father didn't give their child a gun at the age of nine to protect him from the noises coming from the closet? How was he to know that other kids weren't left on their own in cheap motel rooms for days at a time with only their 12-year-old brother and the cleaning staff to look after him? He didn't know any better. To Sam, this was normal... at least for a while.
Then one Christmas, John Winchester did something that was unforgivable to Sam... he failed to come home in time to celebrate with the boys. That was when he learned everything from his brother... what Dad was really doing and why he was dragging his sons through the muck just to get revenge. From that point on all Sam wanted was a normal life... away from all of this supernatural nonsense, but while he was still under 18 and still in school there was nothing he could do. So as soon as he graduated and had the chance to leave his father and brother behind and go to Stanford for college, he took it... and it wasn't pretty.
So Sam had his first taste ever of a normal life at Stanford. Estranged now from his family, he made friends, studied hard, and became involved in a very serious relationship with a young woman named Jessica Moore. In fact, he was well on his way to attending law school when his brother showed up literally in the middle of the night out of nowhere and asked for Sam's help to find their missing father. Sam reluctantly agreed to travel with Dean for the weekend to search for him but they came home empty-handed just in time for Sam to witness the death of his girlfriend Jessica in exactly the same manner that he mother had passed away over twenty years ago. Sam didn't hesitate to leave his normal life at college behind and join his brother on the road, intent on finding John and tracking down whatever evil creature had taken the love of his life from him.
For the next year or so, the Winchester brothers traveled around the country, fighting evil, hunting monsters and saving many lives, most often not getting so much as a thank you as a reward. They've experienced many hardships along the way... many obstacles to get over such as the discovery that a demon was responsible for the death of Mary and Jessica... the death of their father at the hands of said demon. They've also me many interesting people who have made quite a difference in their lives... Ellen and Jo Harvelle, Missouri Mosely, Ash...uh, whatever his last name is.
So in between all the diners, hotel/motels, camping outs in the Impala, and hunting; Sam spent quite a long time working out the mysteries of the supernatural with his older brother. It was not long before the Yellow-Eyed demon's plans became apparent, as Sam began to exhibit unusual psychic abilities. The brothers soon began to find patterns of nursery fires and psychic abilities among others and upon piecing the puzzle together, saw that Azazel had his own plans for Sam and the special kids. In a fight to the death, Sam was stabbed and died, which would have stuck, had Dean not decided to trade his own soul for Sam's life.
This led Sam down a path that not many would want to follow. Sam took a dark path filled with consumption of demon blood and a cunning demon, Ruby. With her lovely promises of knowing ways to keep Dean from going to Hell, Sam began to trust Ruby. Ultimately, they were unable to save Dean from Hell and Sam sought solace from Ruby. In an attempt to become powerful enough to take out Lilith, Sam began to consume demon blood with Ruby's assistance. Unwittingly, Sam was tricked into raising Lucifer and starting the apocalypse.
Sam lost everything. All that he had fought for, was now a distant memory. He worked to made amends with Dean and was part of the front line to help take down Lucifer. This worked for a while until it came down to a choice, say yes to being Lucifer's vessel and have a way to end it all or say no and keep going. Thankfully Castiel gave them time by hiding them from the angels. For a time at least.
In the end, it was more than he could handle and Sam gave in, Adam became Micheal’s vessel instead, and Dean was left to watch the chaos. Almost a year passed and Sam reappeared to Dean after saving him from Djinn poisoning. Upon their reunion, Sam revealed that he has been back this whole time searching for whatever force brought him back and hunting with his mother's side of the family, the Campbells, led by their grandfather Samuel who was also resurrected. While hunting with Sam again, Dean quickly noticed how different he was acting.
When Dean confronted Sam about the fact he was acting differently, Sam denied that Hell affected him in the same way that it did Dean and that he was absolutely fine. Although Sam still possessed his memories, likes, dislikes, and was capable of making rational decisions, he was completely without emotion and appeared almost inhuman. He was brought back but Sam's soul was not with him and was still trapped in Lucifer's Cage
When Dean insisted on recovering Sam's soul, it was suggested by Castiel, Crowley and even Death that Sam's soul was likely "mutilated" and "flayed to the raw nerve" and even if they're able to retrieve it, Sam may die from the damage done. Death does agree to bring Sam's soul back and created a mental wall within Sam's mind to deal with the memories of Hell before he forces it back into Sam's screaming body. However, Castiel, in an attempt to distract Dean and Bobby while he attempts to enter Purgatory, brought down the wall, ultimately causing Sam to remember his time in Hell. Sam eventually reawakened from his comatose state, but found himself still struggling with the visions of the Cage that his soul had endured.
After Castiel's actions resulted in the release of the Leviathans - God's first creations - Sam was left struggling with the restoration of his memories of his time in Hell, even as he remained dedicated to helping Dean and others stop the Leviathans. Sam had to fight not only the Leviathan, but also his own inner demons in the form of Lucifer himself who had begun to taunt Sam with hallucinations. As his mental state became worse, Sam forced himself to go without sleep to stop his visions, but was sent to an asylum when he was hit by a car while running away from Lucifer. Lucifer continued to torment him in the hospital, and he was eventually reduced to a catatonic state. He was saved when Castiel took on his suffering, enabling Sam to continue his life or what was left of it.
With his mind somewhat repaired, Sam was able to go back to hunting, the life that had cost him so much pain and loss. Along the way he had at some point lost everyone he had cared about: his parents, Dean, Ellen, Jo, Ash, Jessica, Bobby, and even himself. With Castiel out of commission and Bobby with a bullet in his skull, Sam and Dean were forced to try to save the world again, this time with the unlikely help of Garth.
Garth suggested that Bobby may still be with them as a ghost, tied to the flask. The same idea had occurred to the brothers, and they are finally able to see Bobby. Sam was willing to attempt working with Bobby to bring down the leviathans, and they managed to steal a tablet called The Word of God from Dick Roman, and prophet Kevin Tran translated it for them. Uncovering the tablet managed to wake Castiel. When Sam and Kevin head to the lab, they found Dick Roman being killed by Dean and Castiel. After Dick exploded, Dean and Castiel disappeared and Crowley took Kevin, leaving Sam, once again, completely on his own, not knowing Dean and Castiel were now trapped in Purgatory.
Following Dean's disappearance, Sam retired from hunting, trying to make a new life for himself with a pet dog and a girlfriend, a veterinarian named Amelia. However, the hunter's calling was too strong and Sam made the decision to fully commit to hunting - saying goodbye to Amelia and his normal life.
After some time, Sam was reunited with his brother, Dean, who managed to escape from Purgatory. With the help of their angel, Castiel, and some new allies, Sam has been undergoing trials to seal the gates of Hell; trials which have taken a tremendous toll on Sam’s body. As the last trial was in progress, Dean interrupted informing Sam that if the last trial was completed it would kill him. As Sam chose to give up the trials, at least temporarily…the angels began to fall…

“One ticket for the 11:05 train” called the man from in front of the ticket counter, sliding a credit card with the name Jimmy Page on the front, though that was not the man's real name, it was in fact Sam Winchester. He had seen reports of unusual train accidents where survivors claimed to have seen a ghost train moments before the accidents happened. Itching for another hunt, Sam found his way to the small train station, looking around at the other people waiting for the train.
“Here you are, Mr. Page. Enjoy your trip.” Sam nodded with a wry smile, mumbling as he walked off, “Yeah, doubt it.” He picked up his bag which held his hunting tools, glad that this place was not sophisticated enough to possess a metal detector. It was not going to be an easy task to find the source of the haunting by himself, but he had no option in this case. Not for the first time, he felt the absence of Dean keenly, wondering if his brother were even still alive, he had not heard word from him since the day they had defeated Dick, but Sam had learned through his adventures that Dean was a survivor.
Sam watched as the train approached the station, pulling his bag securely onto his shoulder as he waited for the train to board.
